VIPER Project Update – January 29, 2025: What’s Happening & Why No Updates in So Long?
Hello everybody,
I thought of giving a little update on VIPER and what is happening and why there was no update in a long time.
What is happenning with VIPER
First and foremost if you are new to the VIPER project or need a refresher check it out here
Last time I officially announced the launch of VIPER, so what has happened since then. I promised better support and expansion of Wazuh rules that VIPER can integrate with and integrations with AubseIPDB & GreyNoise these are still in the works and I hope to get them out for public testing ASAP.
Currently VIPER is undergoing a rewrite of the current code on GitHub. It's a mess I know, originally VIPER was made as part of my BSc Final year project. So in a hurry to meet submission deadlines I hack together a proof of concept that I could submit 😅 (sorry about that). Hey it got the job done 🤷.
After the rewrite the AbuseIPDB & GreyNoise integration will be completed this should also bring with expansion of Wazuh rule support.
On another note, with newer, faster, and cheaper LLMs like DeepSeek popping up, it’s got me thinking—what direction should VIPER go in next? 🤔I mean you can run DeepSeek locally and it's opensource the cost is much cheaper as well. You can vote below for this! 👇
Why no updates in so long?
I've been working on refactoring the code for sometime trying to make it smaller and more reusable, which takes sometime as when I wrote the code only God & I knew the code and now only God knows.

I also need to recreate a test environment as the previous enviorment I ran on the DigitalOcean with the help of some credits. I'm now out of credits and running the lab set up on the cloud is out of my budget.
I've been trying to find some hardware that I can run as a homelab and use for testing. Problem is for the price the hardware is not what I want or is out of my budget range. If anyone knows a good bit of hardware at a low price please let me know.
That's it for this update. 👋
